Our Lace Cake Class was oh so elegant

Have you come in and decorated cakes in our studio before? It's a lot of fun. Everything is do it yourself and we encourage ultimate creativity. Several times a month we help you out with that creativity by teaching a class. Studio hostess, Chayla Turner, is an incredible teacher and she designs all of the classes herself. Although her classes are fully taught, she encourages you to put your own twist on the class and this Lace Cake Class was no different!

Have a great summer, Southmoor!

One of our favorite projects month after month is Southmoor Elementary's Passion Project. This past semester we had a fun group of kids who challenged us to venture outside of our cupcake world. They wanted to decorate everything! The final week with them they asked for donuts so we delivered! We hope all of these wonderful kids have the best summer ever and come visit us at the studio!

Classes are Gaining Traction - Don't Miss Out!

Chayla Turner just keeps turning up the heat with her creative classes. More and more people are signing up to join her in recreating her amazing cupcakes and cakes. Chayla's classes are great for 8 years old and up, and for adults we provide beer and wine. The most recent class was a bunny cake and it could not have turned out any more adorable. Most people said they didn't think they could decorate the same as Chayla but with a little instruction, just look what they designed!

Bunny Huts Hopped right into My Make Studio

Easter weekend was beautiful. Weather could not have been better for holiday festivities with the family. Saturday at My Make Studio was spent celebrating the big Bunny himself and designing his house. Using colorful icings and fun fondant, families decorated their very own Bunny Huts. You better believe peeps and jelly beans and chocolate eggs were involved too! Decorating these fun huts is the best family activity and they make a great center piece for brunch the next morning. If you missed out on our Bunny Huts, don't worry, we do Spooky Haunted Houses in October and Gingerbread Houses in December. Hope to see you and your family there!

Wedding Season is Around the Corner

We know that wedding season is an extremely stressful, exciting, and beautiful time of the year. Budgets are tight and of course you want everything to be just perfect for your special day. If you're looking to keep cake and cupcake costs down, consider coming to My Make Studio to decorate your own! Our prices are super transparent - pay for what you decorate at our normal prices. We can help you stack cakes if you would like as well. We can also provide boxes for all of your cakes or cupcakes. For a small additional fee, our pasty chef, Chayla Turner, can assist you in decorating as well (especially if you have a lot of cupcakes to ice or a more intricate cake to decorate). This is an awesome way to make a silly grooms cake, bridal shower cake, or bulk cupcakes for all of your guests!

Cocktails for a Cause: Hope House

If you haven't heard of Cocktails for a Cause you should! This incredible non-profit has been one of our favorite programs since we opened our doors. Cocktails hosts 3 events a year and each event features a different non-profit to donate in kind items too, and a  different woman owned business to celebrate. You guessed it ladies- only girls allowed! Since My Make Studio has been a corporate sponsor donating cupcakes the last several events, we felt it was only necessary to close the studio for the day for all of our staff to attend the fun event. We drank wine, celebrated the featured non-profit - Hope House - and spent quality time as a staff. We will definitely be attending the next event in June as a staff as well so come out and hang out with us and celebrate June's charity - Firefly Autism!

Valentine's Day Was Full of Chocolate!

What could be better then Valentine's Day at My Make Studio? Chayla Turner hosted a class where we baked heart shaped chocolate cakes for everyone to decorate. Chayla designed her beautiful cake and taught fun techniques but ultimately, this class was the most open and creative one yet. Couples came to decorate their cake, mommy and daughter dates were celebrated, and friends spent time learning how to mold fondant. If you haven't been to a class with us yet, check out our upcoming schedule because Chayla is knocking the next few holidays out of this park!

2017: A Year of Action

2017: A Year of Action

It's no secret there is a lot going on in our country right now. Many are calling each other out to create change, take action, stand up for a cause, fight for what they believe in. I felt it necessary to share my family's brief story and a little bit about the action we plan to take this year.

My husband and I have been together for 3 years. My husband adopted 2 brothers from the Denver foster care system in 2012 and they are 14 and 16 today. Our 8 year old niece currently lives with us and we have an 8 month old baby girl who is biological. Our world basically revolves around Simon, Adrian, Eralyn and Ellie but when we do get away for work, my husband owns a company called Handy Networks and I have My Make Studio. Handy Networks is a local cloud hosting company that my husband started when he was in high school. My Make Studio is fully run and operated by an incredible all female staff with one of my best friends as the manager. We currently have just the one studio (with hopes to expand one day) and we love being a small local business in the great state of Colorado. We try to participate in the community as often as possible. We are corporate sponsors for Cocktails for a Cause and my staff will be attending their next event in a few weeks. We host many non-profit groups at the studio: Easter Seals, Smith Agency, Love Your Melon, Metro Denver Partners, Denver Kids, JDRF, just to name a few. We participate in Southmoor Elementary's Passion Project every month where we get to teach kids dessert decorating techniques. We donate 100's of gift certificates to schools, non-profits, agencies, and various fundraisers to assist in raising money.

2017 brings along new challenges and we'd like to make one new pledge to our staff and our community. We are going to start hosting monthly percentage nights. Each member on my staff will get to choose a non-profit or cause and we will give 30% of proceeds from that night's event to their cause. My husband and I will throw in a few of our events as well, including the American Civil Liberties Union, and Adoption Exchange but we feel it's important that our staff be involved and included. We are a family run business and a family of sorts at My Make Studio. We want everyone's voices to be heard and this will ensure a diverse set of fundraisers and causes for us to support. Our percentage nights will be during regular studio hours and all ages are welcome. Cupcakes cost $5/each and various cake sizes start at $30. We recommend making a reservation when we host one of these nights or you can attempt to just walk in. We have beer and wine for those 21 & up. If the percentage night is not for a cause that you support, feel free to come and get some information about the cause or join us another day at the studio when there isn't a percentage night.

We currently have one percentage night on the books for March 2nd to support the American Civil Liberties Union of Colorado. We are open from noon - 7pm on that Thursday and we encourage everyone to come out and show their support! Check back on our Facebook and blog posts for other upcoming percentage nights we will be hosting. We are very excited about these upcoming nights and are hoping to see a great turn out from the community that we love so much!
